Pricing guide
How much does a private driver cost in Rio de Janeiro?
There is no single price list, and you should be wary of anyone advertising one. What does exist is a short set of factors that determine the figure — and understanding them keeps you from both overpaying and under-booking.
Short answer
It comes down to four things: the booking format (point-to-point transfer, chauffeur at your disposal for 5 or 10 hours, or a full-day trip), the vehicle category, the distance covered and the time of day. An airport transfer costs considerably less than a full day at your disposal, and an executive sedan costs less than an armored car or a 15-seat van. At Aurum the price is fixed at quotation, before the service — no meter, no surge pricing.
The four factors that set the price
- Format. A transfer is priced per journey. Chauffeur-at-disposal is priced per block of hours — 5 or 10. A day trip is priced per day. These are different logics, and comparing one figure to another tells you very little.
- Vehicle category. Executive sedan, SUV, luxury, armored and executive van carry very different purchase, maintenance and insurance costs, and that is reflected in the rate.
- Distance and area. A transfer downtown costs less than one to Barra da Tijuca. A day trip to Búzios, Angra dos Reis or Petrópolis sits in a different bracket altogether.
- Time and duration. Overnight hours, public holidays and any time beyond the booked block factor into the calculation — always stated up front, never afterwards.
What is normally included
The proposal covers the vehicle in your chosen category, a bilingual professional chauffeur, fuel, the mileage expected for the service and, on airport transfers, live flight tracking.
Tolls, parking and additional hours appear itemised in the quote. If it is not written in the proposal, it is not charged later.
Private driver, taxi and ride app — the real comparison
Comparing the fare alone favours the app, and it is an incomplete comparison. It becomes honest once you add the variables the app does not cover:
- Waiting. With an app, standing still means the ride ends and you order another. With a chauffeur at your disposal, the car waits and that time is already inside the booked block.
- Predictability. Surge pricing can double the fare at precisely the moment you most need a car — rain, the end of an event, rush hour.
- Continuity. The same driver throughout your stay knows the schedule, the addresses and the preferences. You never explain the same route twice.
- Language and presentation. This matters when the passenger is a client, a guest, or a visiting executive your company is hosting.
For a single one-off journey, the app usually wins on price. From three journeys in a day onwards, the arithmetic tends to flip — see the formats on private chauffeur hire.
How to request a quote
The proposal comes over WhatsApp, with a fixed price. To speed it up, send all of this at once:
- Date and time
- Pickup and destination, or the planned itinerary for hourly hire
- Number of passengers and how much luggage
- Whether you have a preference or requirement on vehicle category
With those four items the quote usually comes back within minutes, with no back-and-forth just to gather information.
Frequently asked questions
Is the price per person or per vehicle?
Per vehicle. The number of passengers only affects which category you need — up to 15 people in the executive van.
Does the rate change at peak hours?
No. The price is fixed at quotation and is not subject to surge pricing. Overnight journeys and public holidays may carry their own condition, always stated before the service.
How much is a transfer from Galeão to Copacabana?
The price is fixed by quotation and varies with vehicle category and time of day. It is the most requested route we run, and the proposal usually comes back within minutes over WhatsApp.
Is hourly hire better value than several transfers?
From three journeys in the same day onwards, hourly hire tends to cost less — and it covers waiting time, which separate transfers do not.
Is an armored car priced very differently?
Yes, it is the most expensive category in the fleet: the vehicle costs more to buy, maintain and insure. The difference is stated in your quote, with no obligation.
